What Does A Oval Black Spot On The Thumb Suggest?
Question: I have an oval black spot that suddenly appeared on my thumb. By suddenly I mean that it was not there before lunch and was clearly there a couple of hours later. At first I assumed it was a Sharpie mark, since I had been using black markers. It is 3 cm long and 1 cm wide. It is flat and uniformly black. Should I be concerned, since it appeared so suddenly?
Brief Answer:
NO, you shouldn’t be alarmed!
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I have reviewed the attached image. This is suggestive of a blood clot underneath the skin. I will suggest that you monitor only at this time. It generally regresses progressively and would resolve in about 10-14 days. The most important thing is that it should not increase but decrease progressively.
Only seek further care if pain sets in or it increases in size. The spontaneous occurrence make sit more suggestive of a blood clot than and justifies why we shouldn’t get bothered at this time.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
Regards
