What Does A Painful And Itchy Lump On Leg Indicate?

default
Posted on Wed, 10 Dec 2014
Question: I am a 60 year old healthy, active female with a lump in my right lower leg. It is almost midway between knee and ankle toward the outside front of the leg, warm, slightly itchy and sore, approx one inch diameter, and somewhat firm. It feels like a bruise and is not a bug bite. Appeared within the last 24 hours. Can you tell me what this might be? I see my family doctor in 2 days for an annual physical.

Brief Answer:
It could be a Boil.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
As per your description, it looks like a Boil or Infected sebaceous cyst.
I prescribe Antibiotic like Cefuroxime tablet and anti inflammatory tablet to my patients with similar complaints.
If there is evidence of pus,it has to be drained.
As it is of only 1 day duration, it may subside with medicines.
If you can post the pic,it would be more better.
Nothing to worry.
It will come down.
Hope I answered your query.
If you have any questions, I will clarify further.
Wish you good health.
Regards
