What Does A Raised Red Bump With An Orange Wax Like Cap On It Indicate?
Question: my two year old has a raised red bump with an orange wax like cap on it. i took the wax off and tried to see what the bump was but he said it hurts him. it does not have a head like a pimple would so I'm at a loss here

I only just saw it today and have not applied anything to it because i do not know what it is. He hasn't complained about it, and I am assuming he doesn't feel it except when i touch it. The surrounding area from the red spot is raised and I pressed on it gently but he said that did hurt him. He has dry scaly skin and red raised skin that we have been applying eczema lotion to because his dr said he has eczema but this pump does not look or feel like those areas on his skin. I will try to upload some pics i took of the bump but my phone camera is not that great.

The picture quality is surely not that great but from what I could make out, your child has developed a superficial bacterial infection of a group of hair follicles . This condition is very common in young children .
You simply need to keep the affected area clean by washing it with lukewarm water twice a day . Apply a topical antibiotic cream like neosporin or mupirocin over the affected area twice a day .
Do not apply any other cream or oil over it . Avoid using hair oil too. Make sure you wash the hair every alternate day so as to decrease chances of further infection .
