Lichen planus/ Allergic contact dermatitis
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I apologize for the delay in replying.
I have seen the pictures that you have uploaded. It is not very clear unfortunately.
From what I can see, I would consider the possibilities of conditions called as Allergic contact dermatitis and Lichen planus.
Allergic contact dermatitis occurs due to a reaction to an external allergen like cement dust, parthenium dust, hair XXXXXXX etc. The mainstay of treatment would be to avoid the trigger. You have mentioned that you work in construction. If you are exposed to any such chemical/ potential allergen, you may need to protect yourself to avoid it. Initially the allergy starts on the exposed areas and slowly can disseminate to areas where it does not directly come in contact with.
Lichen planus is a type of allergy with no known cause. It appears as purplish colored rashes.
I would suggest the following-
1. Confirm the diagnosis by getting a skin biopsy done by a dermatologist. Confirmation will help in knowing the long term prognosis.
2. You could use clobetasol propionate on the rashes for a period of 10 days and not more than that as it is a potent steroid and can cause side effects.
3. Avoid the triggers if you can identify them as I have mentioned earlier.
4. If the biopsy finding is suggestive of lichen planus, you could also consider oral dapsone after discussing with your dermatologist.
Hope this helps you.
If you have any more queries, I will be glad to answer.
Take care.
Regards,
Dr. Johny Chacko
