What Does A Rectal Mass Found In A Colonoscopy Indicate?
Question: Two part question., I had a colonoscopy yesterday. There were no polyps, but they did find something suspicious in the rectal area. They did a biopsy and now I am supposed to have a CT scan
I know this points to cancer, but can there be a binign mass or are they always malignant? What is the CT scan looking for?

CT can assess mass, its exetnsion and metastasis.

Hello XXXX
No,all rectal masses are not always malignant in nature. It can also be a benign lesion. It may be benign rectal neoplasm.
Exact nature of mass can only be confirmed by biopsy. It is important to know your symptoms.Malignancy should always be ruled out due to your age.
You are rightly advised for contrast CT scan.It can assess mass, its extension to surrounding structure, lymph node enlargement and metastasis.
It is too early for a diagnosis.Treatment depend upon biopsy and CT scan reports.
