What Does A Small Lump On The Back Of Head Indicate?
Question: hi! my 1 year & 11 months old baby has a small/bead size lump at the lower back of his head, both on the left and right side. Is this something I should be worried about?
Brief Answer:
Could be normal. Please upload an image.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on Health care magic.
I think you are referring to the occipital protuberance. If that is the case, it is a normal structure and there is no cause for concern. However, for confirmation I need to ask you to upload an image of the area (with a pointing arrow) and I will be able to guide you further.

Hi! I've uploaded a picture of my child's back. My thumb and point finger touching the area where the bead size lumps are. Thanks!
Brief Answer:
Not a problem
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.
I am quite sure that you are talking about the occipital protuberance as your fingers are pointing to it. You need not worry about the same.

Thank you for this! Just one more clarification: The occipital protuberance appears both on the left & right side of the back of the head? Photos online shows only the middle portion. Thanks a lot!
Brief Answer:
Definitely possible
Detailed Answer:
There can be two separate mounds on either side of the midline. Not a cause for concern.
