What Does A Small Raised Bump Just Near Ear Indicate?
Hi, it could be a bony swelling or Parotid gland swelling.
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX
Thanks for the question.
I have read your question and seen your photos.
It looks like a bony swelling or protrusion which can be seen on an X-Ray. There is a possibility that it could be a Parotid gland swelling which is the largest Salivary gland of humans one on either side of the face just in front and slightly below the ear.
I suggest you see a Surgeon who can examine you and get an X-Ray and Ultrasound of the area. This would be able to tell whether it is a bony swelling or Parotid gland. If its a bony swelling nothing needs to be done. If its a Parotid swelling then it might require further investigation with a CT Scan and/or an FNAC which will be done by introducing a needle into the lump and see the aspirated cells under a microscope to know the nature of the swelling.
But all that can be discussed once we know where the swelling is coming from. So, please get an appointment with a Surgeon and get the investigations done. Do let us known the reports if you need further advice and we would be happy to resolve any more queries you might be having on the subject.

Not dangerous. Unlikely to be lymph nodes
Detailed Answer:
Hi, XXXX
Good to hear from you soon.
I can't say whether it is Parotid or not. An ultrasound of the area would be better to tell that.
It is unlikely to be a lymph nodal swelling in that area.
Even if it is a Parotid swelling, it is unlikely to be dangerous. The commonest swelling in the Parotid gland is a Pleomorphic adenoma which is a benign or harmless tumor.
If it is a bony swelling then also it would be harmless and nothing would be required for it.
Skin rashes might be related if it is something called XXXXXXX Hunt Syndrome but that would have some element of hearing loss and pain which is not there.
So, do not worry and let a Surgeon examine you and follow the course as I advised earlier.

Yes it looks like a cyst. Then no need to do anything
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX
Thanks for the reply and the photo with you pointing to it.
Earlier it looked like a larger lump and now I can actually see the small swelling behind the hairline. That is a dermal swelling which means it is arising from elements of the skin. Therefore, sebaceous cyst would be the most likely diagnosis. They are noting but small collections of sebum, the oily secretion that sebaceous glands in the skin secrete. Their outgoing pores get blocked and therefore the Sebum collects and forms a sebaceous cyst.
And in these cysts nothing needs to be done - only observation. If it causes pain or becomes red then you might require a course of antibiotics and pain medicines for 5 to 7 days. Otherwise, you need not worry about it.
Take care and good to know that it is not a Parotid gland swelling.
Do let me know if I can help you with any other queries. I would be more than glad to do so.
