What Does Abnormal Period Followed By Positive UPT Indicate?

I came across this website via a google search because I need some advice and I was wondering if you could help me.
My last period started on the 15th of August and occurred as normal. I had sex on the 26th/27th August. Normally I have my period exactly a month after but this month it came about half a week early but it wasn't quite like my normal periods - it was heavy for a day then light for a few days. I felt a bit out of sorts still so yesterday I took a test and it came up with a faint line.
I've done some research about faint lines and it said about something called chemical pregnancies but would it come up with a faint line still after I had my period?
If you could respond as soon as possible that would be great as I'm worried about whether I need to take another test and I'm not sure what my plan of action should be?
Thanks

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome
I appreciate your concern.
Please, take another test in 2 or 3 days. Most home urine tests should be positive by the time your period is due if your body is making the normal amount of hCG.
Results may also be more accurate if you do the test first thing in the morning, when your urine is more concentrated.
Faint lines also occur if the home pregnancy kit is not very sensitive, you may try a different brand of pregnancy kit for comparison.
If you are unsure or want to allay your fears with surity then get a blood hcg test done to confirm the results of the home pregnancy test. An obstetric ultrasound should be done subsequently.

If it comes up negative what would that mean/would I need to do?

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,
Hope you are fine.
If the repeat test is negative , then you are not pregnant.
The home pregnancy tests are up to 95 percent sensitive in the hands of experienced technicians but in the hand of the user the sensitivity can fall and results can get affected.
HCG levels in early pregnancy rise exponentially, and you will likely see a faint positive grow bolder on the home pregnancy test in a matter of days, if you are pregnant.
If you are still concerned then get a blood HCG done to allay your fears to rest as its an accurate test that will confirm or rule out pregnancy.
Hope I have answered your query.
