What Does Absence Of Heartbeats During 8 Weeks Of Pregnancy Suggest?
Question: if a girl is 7 to 8 weeks along in pregnancy and there is no sign of heartbeat at the ultrasound and it shows that the fetus stopped growing at 6 weeks, what is likely to happen? there has been no spotting or bleeding. The doctor she has been seeing already has her scheduled at the dnc this wednesday
Brief Answer:
High possibility of miscarriage
Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
Unfortunately these signs may indicate a misscarriage since at this gestational age, in 95% of cases heart beat should be noticed. Also, if there is no growth then this scenario is highly possible. However, some doctors consider that heartbeat may occur even up to 12 weeks but this is rarely possible if there is no any sign of growing. So on next ultrayound if there is no improvement then your doctor consider that dnc should be done. This is routine protocol for such pregnancies since it is safer to do dnc earlier than later if miscariage is confirmed. Wish you good health. Regards

How do they rate how far along she is? Is it by the last day of her last period or the week the baby was consumed?
Brief Answer:
last day of last period
Detailed Answer:
Officially it is calculated from the last day of period so pregnancy in real may be around 10 days later. So I can say that 8 week still may be early to claim 100% that baby is not vital, but after 10 weeks ultrasound should show definite condition.
