What Does Absence Of Yolk Sac In 5th Week Of Pregnancy Indicate?

Question: Hi here s my 5 weeks+maybe 2-3 days Ultrasound,is it seen as healty and viable?Doc couldn t see the yolk sac..GS size is 9mm * 4 mm..no pain,no bleeding..

Hi dear and thanks for your query.

If the doctor couldn't see the yolk sac when the gestational age is 5 weeks + 5 days,your LMP is 3/7 /2014 (and ovulation date 20-21)and more important is that your GS is 9mm ,it may be a blighted ovum.

A yolk sac can be detected easily by transvaginal sonography when the mean gestational sac diameter is 5 to 6 mm.
It is generally accepted that the yolk sac should be observed when a gestational sac measures greater than 8 mm .

But you can wait for another week to do another transvaginal scan .

Thank you for the answer,I might wrote wrong, my GS mean diameter sac size isn t 9 mm,its 9+4 /2 =6,5 mm ,my doc said it might be 1-2 days back then we think..I read some where yolk sac appears whem MSD reaches 8 mm as you said..by this new update what is yourreview about my case ,and ı added my ultrasound which was taken on 13.08.2014 ,is my gs seems healthy?Thanks a lot :)

Hi dear again!

Sorry to reply so late back, and I've read error ,that your mean GS is 9,4 mm but if it is 9*4 mm .You should wait because in practice for this mean size of GS, we can't sometimes visualize yolk sac.
