What Does An LGSIL Mean In A Pap Smear Test?
Not to worry much.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Low grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LGSIL) is a medical term given to a level of cervical dysplasia and is detected through a Pap smear. An LGSIL result means that mild dysplasia, more than likely caused by the human papillomavirus, has been detected. in most cases, clears up on its own within two years. If LGSIL is found through a Pap smear, a colposcopy is then done to confirm results. A colposcopy is an in-office procedure that allows a doctor to examine the cervix more in-depth.
It is done by using a colposcope, a lighted microscope that magnifies the cervix. During the colposcopy, the doctor may also do a cervical biopsy, the removal of small pieces of cervical tissue. The tissue samples are then sent to a lab for further examination.

When they do a pap smear do they always test for HPV?
Details below.
Detailed Answer:
LIGSIL is commonly associated with HPV but if your HPV result is negative even then the mild dysplasia can happen due to a chronic infection or irritation of the cervic. Chronic cervicitis can also result in mild dysplasia.
With every PAP smear, HPV is not done. Only if there is an associated dysplasia then the test is done to find the cause.
Regards.
It is better to ask about HPV status separately.
Detailed Answer:
If the HPV would have been negative then she would have mentioned about it. It is better to ask specifically about her HPV status. The infection can remain dormant without any symptoms for many years.
