Brief Answer: bleeding into stomach or upper intestines Detailed Answer: Hi Mrs XXXXX, hope u r in good health. Black stools indicate (presuming you are not on iron tablets) bleeding into stomach or upper intestines. Green stool is a sign of increased motility that may happen due to any infection or irritating cause, mostly due to indigestion. Once in a while black stool may be ignored, but if it is persisting, an upper GI endoscopy is warranted. Hope this helped.
