What Does Bleeding After Taking I Pill Suggest?

Question: Hi doctor,
my fiancee had last bleeding of her period on 2nd of this month and we had unprotected sex on 4th of this month after which she took ipill within 24 hrs that is on 5th.she again got bleeding for three day. Which started on 9th of this month.is this bleeding indicates she is pregnant??? Or does it indicate she is not??? Please suggest

Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. Taking iPill can cause early or delayed bleeding in most women taking it. This abnormal bleeding is due to high dose of hormone levonorgestrel 1.5 mg contained in iPill.

2. Your fiancee might have irregular cycles for next two months and this is a known side effect of taking iPill.

3. The chance of pregnancy is less because the took iPill. To confirm absence of pregnancy, please do home pregnancy test at least 15 days after probable unprotected sex that is any day after 19 April 2015.

4. Please use condoms or to prevent unwanted pregnancy till your marriage. Taking more than one iPill in 3 months can cause serious side effects like ovarian cysts, ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, irregular cycles and infertility.

5. Right now there is no need to worry as there is little chance of pregnancy if she took iPill within 24 hours. However, it is strongly recommended to confirm by doing home pregnancy test after 19 April.
