What Does Elevated Estrogen Level And Swelling Of Breast Indicate?
I am 59 , Postmenapausal recently went through Breast cancer. Stage 1 , lumpectomy, radiation..now on arimidex ... My issue is I am having some breast swelling, & PMS symptoms the last week of every month.. I suffer anxity & depression.. Taking gabapentin 300mg 3 times a day, Lexapro 10mg..Vistaril at night to sleep.. My question is I am concerned because I am having these symptoms does that mean my estrogen level is up or estrogen dominance.. I am afraid of a reoccurance.. My oncologist says no need to check my estrogen level because I am 59 & had a small amount of cancer... I am scared... Please Help....... XXXXXXX
It's unlikely to be rise in Oestrogen level

Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day
Dear Ms XXXXXXX
There is absolutely no need to be worried about rise in Oestrogen level. As you are post menopause age group there is decline in Oestrogen secreted by ovary. With every passing day there is decline in Oestrogen level. Around the age of 60 years the level of circulating Oestrogen in blood is almost negligible.
The symptoms of swelling of breast if it's on both sides and there is dominant palpable lump then there is absolutely no cause for concern. Recurrence rate in Stage I is very less . Breast conserving Surgery in the form of Lumpectomy (rest of normal breast tissue is preserved) and giving Radiotherapy to the bed of of excised tissue is quite effective to prevent any recurrence.
You can also go through the histopathology report of excised tumor to look whether tumor was Oestrogen + or -
Rest be assured there is no cause for concern and I would appreciate the advise given by your oncologist.
Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.
Take care
