What Does Elevated Platelet Levels Before Surgery Indicate?

Question: I have Crohn's disease . My last pap came back abnormal and I gave to repeat in August. I am having surgery for incisional hernia the 17 so had to go for prep appt. they called and said my platelets were 506,000 and I needed to repeat it. I did today and now it's 538,000. Any ideas as to what could be causing elevated platelets???

Now, Crohn's disease (CD) is one of the major forms of inflammatory bowel disease. Usually, during the active phase of CD, there can be found high levels of platelet count (reactive thrombocytosis). However, there are other features in your blood count (like low hemoglobin) that are also present.

You can discuss it further with your doctor to get further tests and evaluations for CD and determine whether you are going through active phase.
