What Does Fatigue And A Resting Heart Rate Of 44-53 Indicate?

default
Posted on Thu, 23 Apr 2015
Question: My resting heart rate is running between 44-53. I don't have any symptoms like light headed or passing out or anything. I am a bit fatigued and hand/feet are freezing. My HR does go up when I exert energy to about 60-65. Am 5'-5" and 190 pounds. I (other than this last month) work out five times a week and have (in the last three years) dropped from 320 pounds to 190. I had an echocardiogram on my heart with contrast about a year ago and it came back fine. My real concern is my heart rate and how much lower it is than last year. It was always in the 57-65 range. I HAVE had recent bloodwork done (CBC, TSH, FT4, FT3, Metobolic panel etc.) and everything came back within normal range.

Brief Answer:
I am afraid you may need higher doses of synthroid!

Detailed Answer:
Hi am thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this low pulse that you have reported. because you are being treated for low thyroid and this is one of the classical symptoms of hypothyroidism, I am afraid your are not being well treated for this condition. It is true that TSH offers a good way to follow up treatment but symptoms are more important in adjusting the dosage than what the laboratory numbers say.

With the heart EKGs and testing, there is limited information to even think this could be caused by a heart disease. I am very convinced on looking at the dosage of synthroid as the possible reason for this.

I hope this addresses your query fully. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
