What Does Fatigue Indicate Despite Taking Natrise Medication?
Question: Hi,
My father is 75 years old. He is unwell and suffering from severe weakness since last 3 weeks. Upon diagnosis his sodium levels were observed very low (112). He is under medication and using Natrise tablets (daily once). Despite consulting several doctors I don't see any significant improvement. Upon recent blood examination Na+ level is 122. Should we continue the same medication? Please find below changes in sodium levels in last
3 weeks :
Week 1: 122
Week 2: 112
Week 3: current 122
He is vegetarian, non smoker, non drinker. Creatine levels good. Heart 2D echo report normal, chest X-ray report normal.
I am really concerned as there is not significant improvement. Please do suggest.

natrise may help patients with inappropriate antidiuretic hormone levels and can be used at higher doses (up to 60mg per day) for up to one month. So the dose can be escalated but I'm not sure whether a cause has been established or not. A low sodium and high potassium level may raise suspicions for hypoaldosteronism for example. Other significant issues to consider investigating include his anemia, the very high ferritin levels and diabetes. You haven't mentioned any diagnoses so I have to ask, if the doctors have provided adequate explanations for the aforementioned problems...
If the diagnosis has been established and natrise is the treatment of choice then the dosage can be increased.
