What Does Gurgling Sensation And Distended Hernia Indicate?
Please consult your GP and rule out any emergency
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.
I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.
1. It is unfortunate to have a failed hernia repair and this occurs in a small number of patients being operated.
2. The appointment with your general surgeon is on wednesday and that is still 5 days later. It is best to consult your GP and get the hernia site examined.
3. The most troublesome complication of a hernia is strangulation and bowel obstruction. Should you have such a suspected complication at the moment (considering hernia is distended and there is gurgling sound) then you might require emergency attention.
4. Bowel obstruction and strangulation causes symptoms like non reducible hernia swelling, pain and tenderness in the region, inability to pass flatus and feeling nauseated and vomiting. I suggest that you consult your GP first and if confirmed to be a suspected bowel obstruction or strangulation then rush to your nearest ER and get investigations like a X ray erect abdomen and ultrasound scan/ CT scan to confirm the condition.
5. If your GP has examined you and found your condition not likely to be an emergency then please make yourself comfortable and have soft diet and plenty of fluids till wednesday, when you meet your general surgeon. Please avoid doing any stressful physical activity or lifting heavy objects.
Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.
Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
Regards,
Dr.Vivek
