What Does High Density Breast Mass On CT Indicate?
Question: Hi. Had an abdominal CT scan with contrast few days ago. All organs ok. In an unrelated matter CT showed a subcutaneous high density mass in the region of my right breast. Had ultrasound today-negative results. Scheduled for a mammogram and CT CHEST with contrast next few weeks. I'm a male, 49, good health but family history cancer including myself having benign skin cancer on my back. What could it be? What is the common types of mass mentioned above? Should I get an MRI? Any other thoughts? Worried!
Brief Answer:
many possibilities but likely benign
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.
High density breast masses on CT maybe fibrous scar, blood or fluid collection, benign tumor like fibroadenoma or cyst and also malignancy. But as ultrasound is normal, possibility of cancer is low.
MRI maybe better than another CT and mammogram is obviously required. Especially because of the family history. Can you share the family history in detail?
Hope this helps. I will be available for follow up.

Hello Dr. XXXXXXX
Thank you for your help. I will consult with my doctor about getting an MRI. My biological father is unknown. My biological mother had a brain tumor and some other cancers in the family but nothing so notable. I've had some skin cancer but was not malignant. I'm surprised the ultrasound didn't show anything but CT did. I am hopeful it is nothing serious too. My only other thought is that I've had some failed root canal that will be retreated shortly and that I am a heavy social drinker mostly wine. Thank you

Brief Answer:
this family history is probably insignificant
Detailed Answer:
This breast thing is probably unrelated to the family history.
You can go ahead with the root canal. Social drinking is also fine.
Hopefully it will be benign.
