Question: Hello doctor, I am 19 years old. I was diagnosed with Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) three years ago. Since then I have been taking oral contraceptives regularly on prescription of doctor. Last month I discontinued the pills due to some side effects on doctor's suggestion. This month my expected date for menses was 1st of August. But my cycle started 10 days late. From 11th-15th I had a heavy flow. On 15th I had unprotected sex with my partner, and there was no bleeding after that till 24 hours. On 16th I took an emergency pill and had some few spots on 17th. Since then I had stomachache and on 22nd morning I had a heavy flow again with pain. Was this withdrawl bleeding? And if not then what are the chances of pregnancy? Reply asap. Thanks

Brief Answer:
you are pregnancy safe..it was a withdrawal bleed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query to hcm,
Yes the bleeding on 22nd was a withdrawal bleeding in response to ipill intake on 16th august and it was likely to be heavy as you took ipill in the follicular phase when the endometrium thickens but doesn't mature. Now as there was a bleed, hence there are no chances of pregnancy at all. You are comfortably pregnancy safe.
