What Does "lipid Poor Adrenal Adenoma" Mean?
MRI will help characterize the adrenal adenoma
Detailed Answer:
Hi Mising94,
Thanks for writing in to us.
I have read through your query in details.
Your CT scan shows the presence of a lipid poor adrenal adenoma and doctors want to confirm it further by doing a MRI scan.
Adrenal adenomas are benign tumors of the adrenal gland which is located above the kidney. They usually can occur without symptoms as they are non functioning and harmless but rarely can cause symptoms related to the adrenal glands.
There are typical adrenal adenomas which are less than 3 cm in size and often contain fat material. The adrenal adenoma in your case contains less fat and therefore has been described as fat poor adrenal adenoma. MRI will help to further characterize the tumor and choose required treatment.
Tumors less than 3 cm and not causing symptoms are usually kept under observation. Small adrenal mass with symptoms due to hormonal excess require surgery. Tumors more than 3 cm that are non functioning adrenal mass lesions must also be removed as they are considered potentially malignant.
Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.
Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
Regards,
Dr.Vivek
