I reviewed your history.

Retinal detachment surgery is a complex surgery and time is required for vision improvement. Usually vision improvement is seen after 1-4 weeks of retinal detachment surgery depending on the condition.

Since it is only one day after surgery no need to worry and I hope vision will improve.

Please provide me details regarding diagnosis and treatment he is currently on so that I can advice you accordingly.

Brief Answer:
The treatment is in right direction no need to be worried.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thank you for the follow up question.

The treatment your father is currently on in the form of omnacortil, predforte eye drops, zylopred eye drops, atropine sulphate eye ointment, diamox tablets and moxkind tablets is in right direction.

The buckle surgery and cryo therapy is usually done for peripheral retinal degenerations and hence has got relatively better prognosis compared other types of retinal detachment surgeries like three ports pars plana vitrectomy. Hence I hope for improvement in vision.

Since he has stopped blood thinning medicines one day before surgery this will not cause any problems.

Hope I have answered your question and the information is helpful to you.

Brief Answer:
Scleral buckling can be repeated and should not cause problems

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thank you for the follow up question.

Scleral buckling is one of the simplest surgery for retinal detachment and it can be repeated as it is mainly an extraocular procedure. Hence this is not a matter to worry.

Hence need to wait and if the surgery fails to rectify the problem then intraocular surgery like three ports pars plana vitrectomy and retinal attachment may be required.
Kindly discuss with your doctor regarding this option on your next follow up.

Hope I have answered your question and the information is helpful to you.

Sir, as two operations have been performed in just a weeks time is it advisable to go for the vitrectomy immediately or can we wait so that the left eye gains some strength. It is watering from the eye and is swollen and red.
doctor
Answered by Dr. Dadapeer K (5 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
He needs to wait now.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thank you for the follow up question.

Vitrectomy surgery is not required in all the cases, it is required only when buckle surgery fails.
Hence no need to worry regarding the other surgery, your father needs to wait as of now.

Sir, his buckle cryo was not successful. During the first operation on 16 th march 2015, bleeding below the eyes occurred while performing the operation. the surgery could not attach the retina. Yesterday again the doctor thought of putting oil inside the eyes so that the attachment could take effect. But according to him again bleeding took place and he could not pour the entire oil inside. today he told us that the buckle surgery was not successful. Now we need to know that if we have to go for virectomy then how long to wait to show to an expert retina surgeon. should we wait for the eyes to gain some strength
doctor
Answered by Dr. Dadapeer K (1 hour later)
Brief Answer:
Since the buckle surgery has failed you need to consult at the earliest.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thank you for the follow up question.

I reviewed your history. If the buckle surgery is not successful then you need to consult retina specialist to know the status of the retinal detachment and further surgery.

Since your doctor has clearly told that buckle surgery was not successful there is no need to wait and you need to consult your retinal surgeon as early as possible.

Hope this answers your question.

Sir, the problem is that because eyes is watering and red so we thought that should we take some time so that before we go to the retinal expert we allow that eye to heal a bit.
doctor
Answered by Dr. Dadapeer K (24 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Watering and redness will heal by 4-7 days.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thank you for the follow up question.

Watering and redness are because of inflammation caused by buckle surgery. This will heal on 4-7 days.
Hence by the time examination and assessment is done the eye will heal.
Hence I advised you to consult your retinal surgeon so that the delay in time can be avoided.

Hope this answers your question.
