What Does Low CI In An Ultrasound During Pregnancy Indicate?
CI
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I read your query and I understand your concerns.
Following is my reply:
1) CI ( Cephalic Index) measures proper proportion of head size. Your formula is right.
2) It calculates transverse and longitudinal diameter of the head.
3) BPD ( Biparietal diameter) has increased to some extent and it is very early to accurately measure the BPD as few mm error is expected at this stage and hence the little increase.
4) CI needs to be in the range of 74 to 83 which is normal. As per your report its in normal range.
5) CI signifies shape of the head and if any gross abnormalities present in the shape. It is normal in your baby. Hence dont worry about it.
4)
Let me know if you have anymore questions.

Also, by the way, the baby's head *appeared* normally shaped on the US. Just confused about the CI of 70.4
Range
Detailed Answer:
HI,
All measurements have a certain range of normality. Hence individually all parameters did appear normal and hence head shape appeared normal.
Though 70.4 is little below normal it is not alarming because the individual diameters are important and CI is not extremely standard and not made for small differences as in your case. More over in this gestational age few mm of error is possible while scanning and hence can be ignored.
If there was abnormal head shape you generally see gross variations in CI value. Hence as of now you dont need to worry for 70.4 value.
