Brief Answer:
stage 2 function means only slight decrease
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
Kidney disease is normally graded in stages. The stages go from stage 1 to stage 5.
Stage 2 kidney disease refers to a person with a mild reduction in the function of the kidneys (there is only a slight decrease in their effectiveness) but there is other evidence of kidney disease.
This other evidence may be blood or protein in the urine, abnormal structure of the kidneys or genetic evidence of kidney disease.
This mild reduction in kidney function would be demonstrated with a decrease in GFR (glomerular filtration rate)- simply this determines how well the blood in passing through tiny filters in the kidney.
Low platelet counts (
thrombocytopenia) and low white cell count (leucopenia) do not always signify a serious condition.
An acute viral illness can affect the ability of the
bone marrow to produce some of its cells causing the decline.
Since you are currently recovering for an illness, your doctor may consider repeating these when you have been well for a few weeks to get a better picture.
There are potentially more serious causes but these may be considered if the repeat values are also abnormal.
The more serious causes include: side effect of medication, enlarged
spleen, cancer, disease of the immune system, autoimmune conditions such as
lupus, lymphomas.
