Question:
Can you tell me what my C-Spine MRI means?
Broad-based disc herniation creating mass effect upon the dural sac and cord at c6-7 level with no neural foraminal encroachment. There is mild central stenosis at this level.
C5-C6 space presents a left paramedical and intraforaminal disc herniation partially compromising the neural foramen on the left and most likely the exiting roots at that level. the cord is slightly flattened
Brief Answer:
there is protrusion of intervertebral discs
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
In between the vertebra (bones in the back) are intervertebral disc.
The intervertebral disc are composed mainly of an outer layer called of annulus fibrosus and the inner nucleus pulposus.
The foramen are spaces through which the spinal nerves pass out from the spinal cord.
The intervertebral discs are composed of a lot of water and loss of water can occur particularly as persons age. The loss of water cause the decreased pliability of the intervertebral disc.
The discs can protrude , this can be minor or more severe. In severe cases it can compress the nerves coming from the spinal cord. Compression of these nerves can cause nerve related symptoms such as numbness, burning, tingling, sharp pains
YOUR RESULT
(1)disc herniation- the intervertebral disc are protruding out of their space but are not compressing the nerves coming out of the foramen
(2)C5-C6 space- there is also protrusion of the intervertebral disc and this is compressing nerves in the neural foramen.
Slight flattening of the nerves means that the spinal cord is slightly compressed.
(3)stenosis- this is narrowing of a space
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
Brief Answer:
may cause neurological symptoms
Detailed Answer:
Hi
The disc herniation at C6 to 7 is not pressing on any of the nerves and may be associated with pain but no neurological symptoms including no tremors
In the c5 to c6 space there is some pressure on the nerves which may cause nerve related symptoms such as tremors .
If the compression is causing significant symptoms, your doctor may consider referral to a neurosurrgeon
