What Does My CT Scan Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 18 May 2015
Question: My nephew is 4 yrs 11 months old, will be completing 5 yrs this 14th May. He has been diagnosed of Atlanto-axial rotatory subluxation - Fielding and Hawkins classification Type II. His symptoms were neck deviated to slightly left position and when told to correct he complained of pain in region between close to spine-cord brain junction and ear. What is the way forward ? What is the treatment for this given his age? I have attached the CT scan report.

Brief Answer:
Further evaluation is needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your nephew's symptoms and CT scan findings.

First of all, i would like to reassure you that these abnormalities are minor and there is no need to worry.

Type I and Type II sublaxation are milder abnormalities and simple treatments work.

Clinical examination should be done by the neurologist and MRI of cranio-vertebral (CV) junction should be done, if necessary after that.

In mild cases, a neck collar may be used. Sometimes traction is also needed.

Condition improves in a few weeks.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,

Hi Sir,

During the process of diagnosis we have been advised to do MRI of CV junction. I have attached that report as well. We are worried over whether traction would be tolerated well by the kid since that procedure involves making punctures in skull.

Looking forward for your guidance.
