What Does My CT Scan Report Indicate?

Question: I was recently in a car accident (11/11/15) and I'm reading through my cr scans because my pain is worsening and my doctor and I can't figure out exactly where it is coming from or what happened. On the ct scan of my cervical spine it reads: 7 cervical vertebra are identified. There is straightening of the normal cervical lordosis, with minimal anterolisthesis of C2 on C3 and C3 on C4 which may be physiologic. The atlantoaxial and bilateral atlantooccipital joints are intact. Incomplete fusion of the posterior arch of C1 noted, developmental variant. The vertebral bodies are normal in height, and there is no evidence for an acute fracture or dislocation. The intervertebral disc spaces are preserved. Normal mineralization. The prevertebral and regional soft tissues are unremarkable. No discrete disc herniation. No significant central canal or neural foraminal narrowing. Neck base structures and included portions of the lung bases are unremarkable. Impression IMPRESSION: There is no CT evidence for an acute fracture or dislocation of the cervical spine. What does this mean? Could the first couple sentences be the reason for my pain? I've also had a hard time breathing deeply and yawning. I always get a sharp pain that takes a while to go away and in my other cr scan it says: Mild bilateral dependent atelectasis. could this be the cause of the breathing problem?

Brief Answer:
CT is normal.Tell the details.

Detailed Answer:
Hi M XXXXXXX
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist,here to answer your query.

CT of spine is essentially normal. There is apparently no reason for the severe pain,on this CT.

Please tell the following details about your pain so that I can advise you further-
1)In what body part do you have pain?Is it in the arms or neck or shoulders?
2)Is it persistent or intermittent? If intermittent, how frequent it is?
3)What all factors increase the pain and what factors improve it?

Atelectasis can cause breathing problems. For this, you need to refer to a pulmonary medicine specialist.

For now, please follow up with the details of the pain so that I can advise you accordingly.

Inbetween my shoulder blades is where the most pain is, however it radiates to my left arm and up my neck and occasionally i have a severe burning sensation in my left arm and a numbing sensation in my left leg. That happens atleast 5 times per day but as far as the upper back and neck pain, its consistent. Moving quickly, bending down, lifting something as light as a half gallon of milk, pulling doors open, holding my head up without it resting on the back of the couchor pillow for longer than about 5 mins all increase the pain substantially. Staying still and using a heating pad tends to help .

Brief Answer:
Neurological examination/MRI Cervical spine.

Detailed Answer:
Hi M XXXXXXX
Thanks for being in follow-up and providing further details.

Though CT may have not shown significant abnormalities, however, symptoms are suggestive of involvement of nerve radicles and probably tracts in the spinal cord at the cervical spine.

Next,I would suggest you to get yourself physically examined by a neurologist,so that any deficit if present, can be detected.

MRI of cervical spine would have been a better investigation in this scenario.

If you have further questions,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up.
