What Does My CT Scan Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 28 Dec 2015
Question: Hello, I went to the ER a couple of nights ago thinking I was having a gallbladder attack. My gallbladder had no stones, but they did a CT scan and when I was reading the report it said some things that concerned me. It said there was mild hepatomegaly and markedly steatoic liver. My ASL and ALT where both 87. I had drank some light beer that night, but quite a few. Does your liver enlarge anytime you drink alcohol and do your liver enzymes rise when you drink? The doctor did not mention anything about my liver, but it was in the report I had when I left the hospital.

Brief Answer:
Alcoholu use can cause elevated liver AST and ALT..

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!

I read carefully all your concerns and I understood your query.
Elevated level of AST and ALT may be due to:
- fatty liver, obesity
- chronic alchohol use
- viral hepatitis.

The liver dosen't increase in size immediately after alcohol use but chronic alcohol use may cause fatty liver and hepatomegalia.

At this situation I strongly suggest to stop alcohol use and repeat AST and ALT after 6-8 weeks of quiting alcohol.

If you were my patient I would recommend to do serologic test for viral hepatitis like HbsAg and ant- HCV to rule out chronic viral hepatitis.

Meantime I would suggest to:
-avoid fatty and sugar foods
-try to loose weight
-use vegetables and fresh fruits
- stop alcohol use
-use sylimarine and Vit E.
-increase physical activity

Hope it was helpfull to you !
