What Does My CT Scan Report Indicate?
Question: I have had bleeding in my spit. I took a CT scan that showed an abnormality in my left upper lobe. They did a bronchoscopy and a biopsy. The biopsy said "concerning for cancer cells" but there was only 10 cells on each slide and he will not make a diagnosis.
I took a PET SCAN, will attach results as well as CT scan. They are still not sure if it is cancer, but they want to do a VATS assisted lobectomy, what do you think?

Brief Answer:
Hello. Lobectomy is an option
Detailed Answer:
Hello.i have gone through the details. So since you had suspicious cancer cells, lobectomy under vats is most reasonable treatment for you. No other investigation will be required at this stage and surgery is the answer. It will also serve the purpose of definite treatment.
Thanks and regards

Do you think the pet scan gave any clues as it being cancer vs not ? It lit up at XXXXXXX 1.9 which also could be due to infection or inflammation relating to the bronchoscope. One last think I would add is that I started antibiotic about 4 days ago and my shortness of breath has been clearing up and almost completely gone .
Brief Answer:
HEllo. I want to see the biopsy report
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear. The petct report is non contributory as you rightly said it can lit up in mild infections as well. There is no definite lesion in the petct but the biopsy has some concern for cancer cells. If it is positive, then surgery is the answer.
Please upload biopsy report. More over you can have a second opinion about biopsy by examining it by another pathologist under microscope.
Thanks and regards

I have a few more questions, I dont have biopsy report.
1. Does a 1.9 on pet scan give you good confidence that the lesion, if cancerous, is small and possible not as aggressive
2. Does the PET-scan give you a large amount of confidence that there are no lymph nodes involved?
3. He described adenocarcinoma cells. One slide was negative, the other slide showed two groups of suspicious cell. Is adenocarcinoma easy to spot vs a carcinoid on a slide?

Brief Answer:
Hello. It may be aggressive.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear. A lesion how small it may be, can be aggressive as every lesion is small to begin with and size is no criteria.
Yes, pet ct gives with certainty that the nodes are there or not.
Just seeing a few cells may be difficult to differentiate between adeno and carcinoid. Immuno-histo markers can be applied which can tell by certainty.
Hope it helps.
Feel free to ask further.
