Question: Hi, I have just had a CT scan of the chest and it reports that non-contrast mediastinum contains a low density confluent mass extending from thoracic inlet between right innominate artery and subclavian vein inferiorly to the level of the tracheal bifurcation and right pulmonary artery. The margins are smooth and the lesion extent is 57mm. Also there is a right upper lobe apical segment subpleural subsegmental nodule which is 2.7... The left lower lobe posterior basal segment has a 4.1x4.3 well circumscribed nodule which does not contain calcification. Left lower lobe lateral basal segment contains subpleural subcentimetric calcified 2.4mm nodule. Right middle lobe contains a densely calcified 2.8mm nodule. I am worried and am not able to see my doctor until next week. Could you tell me what this means please?

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX
Thanks for writing in to us.
I have read through your query and reports in detail.
There is description of a 57 mm cyst like mass in the middle portion between the lungs (mediastinum) with the likelihood of a mediastinal cyst. It is possibly containing fluid within.
The findings in the rest of the lung (right upper lobe, left lower lobe) are showing benign characteristics.
There is also mention of lymph nodes just below the bifurcation of trachea in to right and left branches (further details not mentioned).
Left kidney cysts and T 10 vertebralhemangioma are also benign findings.
The 57 mm lesion is benign by imaging characteristics. There is no immediate danger to your health and you can wait for a week until you consult your doctor.
Wishing you good health.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
