What Does My CT Scan Report Of Neck Indicate?
Salivary gland swollen from duct stone
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for contacting HCM with your health care concerns.
You have been recently diagnosed with a swollen salivary gland that is causing pain and swelling. A salivary gland can get swollen when the duct is blocked usually from a duct stone. The duct stone is caused by overly dry mouth and sometimes by medication.
To treat salivary duct stones we initially try an antibiotics but this does not always help. Sometimes an ENT surgeon may need to cannulate the duct and remove the stone manually. You can help the removal of the stone by drinking plenty of water and maintaining good hydration. Sometimes eating lemons that increase salivation may help force the stone out.
In summary
1. Salivary duct stone causes swollen salivary glands
2. Drink plenty of fluids
3. Try lemon or lemon drops to increase salivation
4. ENT surgeon to manually remove the stone
