What Does My HIV Test Result Indicate?
Question: I was given these results today? Could this be possibly a false positive for HIV?
HIV 1/0/2 ABS INDEX VALUE 1.01 H with a reference range of < 1.00
HIV 1/0/2 ABS QUAL - Repeatedly Reactive with a reference range of non reactive
What does this mean?

Where would that be on the lab results? It says HIV 1/0/2 Antibodies. I don't see where a specific kit was noted. From what I have been reading online, I could have a false positive on the ELISA test but if I was to take the Western Blot, it could be different. Would it have given a false positive because of the 1.01 being over the range? Also, I was also diagnosed with BV, could this play a part with the antibodies showing up?

I got the kit literature of your test online; here is the interpretation.
-HIV 1/O/2 ELISA test is designed to test antibodies to different strains of HIV, including HIV-1 Group M (the common one), HIV-1 Group O (a rarer variation) and HIV-2 (a different type of HIV which is uncommon outside of West Africa).
-Some older HIV antibody tests can miss some of the rarer HIV types. But the newer HIV 1/O/2 types test performs pretty well to look for all types of HIV.
- The test design is works on the Index value of the test. If the index value is less than 1.0, we can safely assume it isn't HIV. But as you have little bit higher than the index value than it requires confirmation by other test to confirm you as whether you have HIV or not. It may be false positive or or can subsequently convert to true positivity. Therefore I will definitely order for repeat testing say after a few weeks.

The value was at 1.01, not a high value at all. I have been retested to confirm if this test was a false positive. What factors would contribute to a false positive?
