What Does My HSV-1 Test Report Indicate?
it indicates that the result is positive
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
The reference range is 0.9 as you stated, since your value is 25.80 , it is above the reference upper limit, indicating that it is positive.
This means that according to this test result the HSV 1 was positive/detected.
HSV 1 is very very common. It is the herpes that is normally associated with the lesions around the mouth- oral herpes (cold sores)
There are some persons who are not aware that the virus is present. Many persons have this virus in their system. Once present , it does not disappear, but can remain latent.
When an acute episode occurs, using anti viral medication would help. Episodes can be brought on by stress, illness, severe whether, poor diet
HSV2, one of the other herpes viruses, is the type that is normally associated with genital infections (sexually transmitted infections)
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
virus present in majority, possible already has HSV
Detailed Answer:
HI
It is an infection that would be seen around the mouth, not sexually transmitted so you would not be likely to transmit to your wife during normal intimacy.
It is possible, since the majority of persons have this infection, that your wife already has this virus in her system, this can be checked by testing.
If you avoid kissing or do not share utensils with your wife or children when you get an outbreak, transmission is reduced
Please feel free to ask any other questions
mainly around mouth so would not be found in semen
Detailed Answer:
HI
Sorry about the delayed reply.
HSV 1 is normally only seen around the mouth, it is not commonly a genital infection.
The only way it would be transmitted via your semen would be if you also have genital herpes with HSV 1 or 2. This would present with a painful rash in the genital region.
Since your infection is in the oral region, it would only be transmitted via oral contact (kissing, sharing utensils).
If you get frequent oral outbreaks then you can take oral anti viral medication such as acylclovir or valcyclovir to prevent them from occurring
If your wife gets genital herpes eg as a result of oral intercourse when you have an outbreak on your mouth, then she can be given treatment by her doctor to prevent transmission to a baby.
