What Does My MRI Scan Report Indicate?
Question: Hi Doctor,
We just received results from our 9 year old son's MRI. It states that he has a cystic widening of the extra axial CSF spaces overlying the left night partial vortex with associated significant thinning and scalloping of the inner table of the overlaying calvarium. No division restriction noted. No midline shift is sent. No signal changes in treated parietal lobe.Most likely arachnid cyst measuring 2.7x3.7x1.5 cm ....that seems to me to be huge.
His doctor said nothing to worry about.....cannot help it.
The reason for MRI was due to frequent headaches after physical activity and weather changes.
Should I go for a second opinion??? Please help

Most of the arachnoid cysts even when are large, don't cause any symptoms, and are usually an incidental finding on imaging studies done for another reason.
Only about 20% of people that harbor an arachnoid cyst are reported to have as symptom nonspecific headaches.
When an arachnid cyst is found to be symptomatic, several surgical options exist to remove the cyst.
In my opinion, you should get another option about relationship between the cyst and symptoms, a Neurosurgeon should be consulted.
If the cyst isn't related to symptoms, (other
causes of symptoms are identified), it isn't necessary to treat it.
