What Does My MRI Scan Report Indicate?
I have used you before and received great service so here I am again!
I recently had a full brain and Circle of Willis MRA to rule out potential brain aneurysms. I am pleased to say that is came back all clear!
Am i correct in my assumption that the brain stem (inc basilar artery) would have beenincluded on this scan?
Thank you again
Yes, basiar artery is included in this study.
Detailed Answer:
Thank you for posting your query.
I am Dr Sudhir Kumar, Neurologist, and I would try my best to help you.
I have noted the details provided by you. Yes, basilar artery is included in any study of Circle of Willis. Brainstem (including midbrain, pons and medulla) is also included in an MRI of brain.
I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.
Wishing you good health,

So I am correct ib thinking that any potential aneurysms in these areas would have been identified, as per what my doctor advised?
Sincerest thank you
Yes, any aneurysms would have got identified.
Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.
There is no aneurysm, as the MRI of circle of Willis would be able to detect any aneurysms.
Best wishes,
Dr Sudhir Kumar MD DM (Neurology)
MRI and MRA are almost the same.
Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.
MRI includes only the brain including brainstem (the arteries and blood vessels are not covered).
MRA (MR angiogram) covers brain as well as the blood vessels. In other words, MRA is more comprehensive than the MRI alone. So, you had the best study possible!

One final question, it was actually a MRA that I had and not a MRI, am I correct in my assumption that an MRA would cover the same area as an MRI doctor?
Yours,
XXXXXXX
Yes.
Detailed Answer:
Yes, in your MRI, brain, brainstem and all blood vessels were covered and they are normal.
Best wishes,
Dr Sudhir Kumar MD DM (Neurology)
That's good to hear!
