What Does My MRI Scan Report Indicate?

Question: Hi, after working out one night I began to feel extreme tightness in my forearm and wrist. Every time I rotate or supinate my wrist and arm I feel extreme pain. Also my elbow seems to crack quite frequently. I have gotten an mri of neck elbow shoulder. The only thing that appears abnormal is a small tear in my anconous muscle. I have rested for 5 entire months almost no activity and still no relief. I under went nerve studies and emg tests both which came back negative for entrapment. I really feel as though I am dealing with a nerve issue. I have weakness in my hand and feel extreme pressure when I do basic things ie drink a bottle of water. I have gotten two rounds of prp in my elbow no relief. My dr's believe I have tennis elbow. Will an mri of wrist or triceps reveal any possible nerve entrapment? Thank you in advance for your time.

Brief Answer:
Cervical spine MRI, Wrist MRI, Physiotherapy, ultrasound therapy

Detailed Answer:
Hi there,

Thanks for the query,

Never entrapment can be well demonstrated in Nerve Conduction Velocity (NCV) study. If this has failed to show entrapment then it is less likely to be the diagnosis.

If you have pain radiating from the back of the neck, it could be a cervical spondylosis or slip disc in the spine in the neck. I would advise an MRI of the cervical spine because entrapment can occur high up in the neck where the nerve begins.

Other cause could be muscle pathology. Do get your Vitamin D level assessed. It's an important test. Also, you can do physiotherapy to strengthen the common extensor muscles of the elbow with Ultrasound therapy. This is really beneficial.

MRI of the wrist can show possible Carpal tunnel syndrome where there is entrapment of the Median nerve. For the Triceps the test won't be useful.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow-up queries.

Hi, thanks for the great answer. Do you think phyiscal therapy would help this condition. Everytime I try to do rehab excercises and stretches it hurts. Every few min I get a cracking sensation in my elbow or triceps could this possibly be snapping triceps syndrome

Brief Answer:
Muscle spasm

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back,

The inherent quality of the muscle's decreased ability to relax adequately can cause muscle spasm, tightness and cracking sounds.

A massage should help, combined with Ultrasound therapy.

You can take Tablet Levocarnitine 500mg once a day for a month can be taken to improve the muscle metabolism. It is mostly an over the counter medication.
