Brief Answer:
We need to exclude Parkinson's disease.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I am Dr Sudhir Kumar, Neurologist, and would try my best to help you.

I have noted your clinical symptoms and findings. I am glad to note that your MRI was normal, which has excluded serious conditions such as tumour, blood clots, infections, etc.

At this stage, we need to exclude a diagnosis of Parkinson's disease (PD). Presence of tremors, loss of fine motor skills and slowness point to that.

Also, if MRI of cervical spine has not been done, it should be done to exclude compression of spinal cord/nerves in the neck region.

I sincerely hope my reply has helped you.

I would be pleased to answer, if you have any follow up queries or if you require any further information.

I had a cervical MRI years ago that showed a bone spur pinching a nerve that I was told could cause some of numbness in my hands. Carpal tunnel surgery 10 years ago seemed to help so never pursued neck surgery. Could this cause weakness in right side legs as well as hands?

Brief Answer:
Severe compression of nerves in the neck can cause weakness.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.

I agree that pain, tingling and numbness are more common with pinched nerves in the neck. In severe compression of nerves, or with compression of spinal cord (which are less common), weakness of arm and legs may occur.

Best wishes,

Dr Sudhir Kumar MD DM (Neurology)
