What Does My MRI Scan Test Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Thu, 8 Sep 2016
Question: I have recently had an MRI as I have been showing symptoms that the doctor wanted to rule out as maybe a brain tumor. Before the MRI I have had severe pain all over my body for numerous years and have learned to live with it; so my pain tolerance is pretty high. Within the last 1 1/2 years I have been suffering from vertigo , nose bleeds, severe pain on the left side of my head and down through the base of my neck, My left eye would twitch uncontrollably. Everything only happening on the left side. Went to the MD and she gave me tramadol for the pain and then referred me to an ENT. I went to the ENT they did hearing test and they came out normal, and since I didn't have an episode of Vertigo in her office she said she was sure that I had BPPV and since I didn't have insurance and was paying cash she said she really didn't want to do an MRI, because how expensive it could be. She sent me home and said that if I had another episode of vertigo to come back in the office and they would perform ENG(electronystagmogram), and could give me exercises to lessen the severeness of the vertigo attacks. I probably spent a total of 10 minutes with her and spend $150 and walked out feeling like I didn't get any answers. This was in March of this year. I learned to deal with the vertigo, eye twitching, headache and stiff neck all symptoms on my left side. I finally stopped having the nose bleed on the left side and coughing up blood in my mucus. I still had the vertigo, but it wasn't as severe as it had been. BUT then I woke up one morning and the back of my head was killing me. I felt like a whelp or bump on my head and looked in the mirror and saw a large read massive whelp and it felt like it had fluid in it. I thought I got bit by a spider and or flee bites from my dogs, but they never have flees. I stripped the bed and washed everything in hot water with bleach. I sprayed bug spray all around the corners of the house and used lysol and sprayed down the bed. The next day I had red tiny blisters on my right ear and the whelp on the back of my head had spread with more whelps on the right side of my head. I looked at my chest and a small patch of red blisters were there. It hurt to comb or brush my hair. I have always often had numbness in my right hand, but just a very little and not very often. That has changed, now I have started experiencing numbness and tingling in both my hands and arms for long periods of time to the point to where I can't even pick up a pencil or glass. I would keep holding my arms up in the air thinking that would help the circulation. I called and made another appt. with my M.D. She looked at my head and my right ear and said that I had shingles. I told her I feel like I am walking around in a daze and my balance is off. l often feel like I am in a bubble and when I blink my eyes I can feel the pressure in my ears. I have severely suffered from anxiety or panic attacks since 1985. I don't like taking xanax and I try to treat it by taking Stress B complex and magnesium as I heard that that helps with anxiety, but when it gets bad and I am up and my heart rate is racing out of my chest and I am trying to take deep breaths and when that doesn't work I make an appt. with my M.D. and tell her what is happening. She gave me the lowest dose of the generix of xanax and then put me on Sertaline 50 mg at first, but when I followed up with her I told her she would have to up the mg. So now I take (1) 100 mg of sertraline. She wrote a prescription for my shingles which is acyclovir. She also order amitriptilene for the headaches and pain for the shingles. I am also on Cholesterol, blood pressure. She is also ordering a small mg of a water pill that also helps with blood pressure. I think the XXXXXXX from the MRI made my feet and legs so swollen. My balance is getting worse, but usually only when I would get up at night to go to the bathroom or if I had laid down for a long time, but I always feel like I am not walking in a straight line and my balance is off. When I try to sleep at night I have shooting pains like lightening bolts striking my leg and I have tried warm and cold compresses to try and relieve the pain. My eyes are beginning to cross more than usual as that had been happening with all these other symptoms. My Older son who is 28 noticed that my eyes would involuntarily cross. O just thought it was because I am so tired. I was getting used to my eyes doing it, but it now is constantly happening. My hands would always shake no matter what time of the day and shake extremely if I hadn't had something to eat. That is another thing my oldest realized when he visited me. My M.D. took my vitals and did blood work on me. The results came back saying I had high cholesterol, I was pre-diabetic, my thyroid was low. She tested my muscles by me pushing her arms down and her pushing my hands and arms. She notice weakness in my muscles and I am a very strong woman who could lift 50 lb boxes. I can't do that at all anymore. She noticed at that time how bad my hands hands were shaking. She said she wanted me to schedule me for a MRI of my head with Contrast and make an appointment with her within a week after getting the CD and give the radiologist time enough to send over his report of the MRI, . My appointment was today and she showed me on the CD that I didn't have any kind of tumors, but there was a large white area around my sinuses, but I don't have sinus problems at all and she said that could be results from years ago. She took my blood pressure and it was high enough to where she prescribe me blood pressure medicine. She said with all my symptoms and that how I have learned to just live with it, but now other symptoms are popping up that she studied over my case and thinks it may be Multiple Sclerosis, but is not going to diagnose me with it. She referred me to a Neurologist. I want to know what is going on and I know I have symptoms that seems to mask other ailments or diseases, but she really thinks that I have MS, but to get it proven by the Neurologists and she said it could take a long time as they will want to run lots of blood work and probably another MRI on different areas. I don't have insurance I would have to cash pay as I did last week $720 for the MRI w/contrast of my head. I can't keep living like this and in pain and no knowing what I have and what we can do to treat it and make me feel better. I NEED to know your expert adivice and tell me what you think and help me figure this out as I have a 13 year old boy and the last thing I want to do is scare him or be helpless in not knowing my diagnosis and what is the next step and the step after that and so on and so on. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE HELP ME!

Brief Answer:
Multiple sclerosis is a possibility.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Regarding to symptoms and health concerns you describe, multiple sclerosis (MS) is a strong possible diagnosis in your case.

Diagnosis is achieved by clinical signs, MRI of brain and spinal cord, lumbar puncture (spinal tap) about MS related antibodies and evoked potentials.

It is necessary to upload the MRI report in order to understand better your condition.

At this time, I think spinal tap is the next step to do in achieving a correct diagnosis.

If the MS is confirmed by MRI of the brain and spinal tap, treatment should be started.

IF still doubts about the diagnosis after these tests, MRI of spine and evoked potential are necessary to be done.

Discus with your Neurologist about these issues.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Greetings.

Can I upload the MRI CD to you and you look at it and let me know what you find? They did a MRI of the brain with contrast. About 350 images that do not make any since to me.
