What Does My SGPT Nad SGOT Count Indicate?

Question: My serum sgpt is 259

Serum sgot is 582

Serum total bilirubin is 2.4

Serum direct bilirubin is 0.5

Others are normal

In liver function test what is the problem

Hi,
Thank you for the query your liver to have lot of inflammation.
We need to find out what is the exact cause of this swelling in liver and then treat it accordingly.
First and for most is if you consume alcohol need to stop it urgently.
Also need to do basic tests like hepatitis b and C virus testing, prothrombin time, ultra sonography of liver. Once they are normal need to look for rare virus like hepatitis A and E. Though your blood reports do not suggest same but they need to be excluded.
Also need to look for any medications that you have been taking which can cause liver swelling, if any need to be stopped at earliest.
Once this has been ruled out and additionally if you have low hemoglobulin workup for rare illness like Wilson's disease (copper overload), hemolytic anemia (rupture of red blood cells) needs to be done.
All these test needs to be done at earliest. Also need to keep a watch on liver function frequently.
Need to see a gastroenterologist too.

I have taken this one month back no abnormality are there in sgot and sgpt except slight variation in serum total and direct bilirubin why this sudden increase

How long will it take to normalize my liver?is it curable or life threatening? I have taken high amount of alcohol few days back, should I take the test again to reconfirm it and also pls tell what should be my diet to normalize my liver

Then possibly it is because of alcohol. You need to stop it urgently.
Also get basic test like ultrasound, hepatitis b and c checked and repeat liver function tests after 5 days along with consultation with a gastroenterologist.
