What Does My TSH Level Indicate?

Question: Hello doc, I have increased TSH level 150 n I m on medication. I have to continue it to rest of my life. Is it like this. I have heard that once the level of TSH increased then that person should be on medications for while life. I m little worried about it.
Brief Answer:
hypothyroidism does need life long replacement.
Detailed Answer:
Dear xxxxxx! hi! what i could get from your query is that you have primary hypothyroidism. Now whether your TSH is 150 or your dose of thyroxine is 150 is not clear to me.
So kindly clarify that. In addition to it, your query that do you need it for life, XXXXXXX in most cases it is true. hypothyroid is a state where the gland stops working, so we just replace thyroxine from outside, we do not repair the gland per se. so the replacement is for life.
regards!

My TSH level is 150 and I have started taking thyroxine 100 mg. According to you is this high level of TSH will lead serious consequences in my life or this medication will continue further.
Brief Answer:
so you have primary hypothyroidism clearly.
Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX i did not mention a word as high level of TSH or serious consequence .
please re read the answer.
TSH is high because it has not been treated for long. hypothyroidism if adequately treated and thyroid balance well maintained has no consequences rather.
but definitely you will require it for life long as the disease is overt and TSH around 150 clearly signifies that your gland is hypo functional.
regards!
