Question: Hi Doctor,
Please look at my x-ray report of my left hand's little finger. Does it require a surgery or only POP can fix it?

Brief Answer:
Surgery is a better option.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
There is a intra- articular comminuted fracture of middle phalanx of little finger. In this case, immobilization with POP cast will not help. There are two options-
1. Conservative treatment with splint. In this treatment, you may have slight malunion with stiffness of the joint.
2. Operative treatment- Done with Jess external fixation. In this treatment, there are better chances of reduction and healing and you may gain a full range of movement in this joint after healing.
Do consult your treating orthopedic surgeon for the best treatment possible in this case.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
