What Does My X-ray Result Report Indicate?
Question: I am attaching the X Ray of my 4 year old kid who fell and broke his bone on 30-Dec-2015 and this X Ray was taken on 14-Jan-2016 on a follow up visit. Please examine the same and let us know of any progress or if the healing has started. I am attaching two xrays taken today and the one from last week. Thanks for your response.
Brief Answer:
Yes. Good signs of healing. Continue plaster for another 4 weeks
Detailed Answer:
Hi there.
Thanks for the query.
I have revised the serial xrays and noted that there is definitely healing in progress.
I suggest the plaster cast to be on the arm for a total of 6 weeks minimum for good healing.
Kindly take another Xray both Anteroposterior and Lateral views of the forearm after 2 weeks to note further healing progress.
I hope I have answered your query.
I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Thanks for your response. Though the ulna still has to unite, will my son will be able to use his left arm as usual after 6 weeks from the date of injury while the healing and remodeling is in progress? Please advise.
Brief Answer:
Need elbow mobilisation and restricted weight lifting
Detailed Answer:
An Xray needs to be taken at the end of 6 weeks of total duration of treatment in the cast. If the union is in progress, then the cast can be removed and the elbow can be allowed for movement but weight lifting restricted for another week or two. If the fracture is properly bridged by new bone in all sides then he can go on with normal weight bearing. The elbow tends to get stiff after 6 weeks in cast, so elbow stretching exercises are recommended first.

Thanks for your response. Just one last thing, when compared to the XRAY taken last week - we see some union that has happened (though it is minor) and if this sort of healing continues, my son will be able to atleast do some tasks like writing (as he is left hander) after 6 weeks right. Sorry to bother.
Brief Answer:
Yes. He can do non-weight lifting exercises
Detailed Answer:
Yes. After 6 weeks he can do all non-weight lifting tasks. He can be able to write as well. Once the Xray shows total fracture bridging, he can begin to lift weights.
