What Does My X-ray Test Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 21 Mar 2016
Question: Hello my chest xray came back with a small area of lung infiltrate on the upper right lobe.
Suddenly everybody is accusing me of TB and it is frustrating. I have no symptoms. No fever, no loss of appetite, no cough, no fatigue, no loss of weight no night sweats, no shortness of breath, no chest pains.
My TSTcame back with a reaction. Sputum test is negative TB and blood tests have already ruled out cancer, tumor and hiv.
Can an infiltrate mean something else? Like a fungal infection? Or a past infection that healed on it's own? Or allergy? I have allergy to dustmites and i live by a main road where cars and motorcycles pass by everyday.

Brief Answer:
Infiltrates in upper lung fields are generally due to TB

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX,

Thanks for posting your query on HCM.

Generally infiltrates in the upper lobes of lungs are due to TB. In your case you are based in South East Asian region where TB is more frequent. Infiltrates indicate active lesion.

At times you may not have symptoms especially if you have a good immunity but without treatment the infection may spread, hence treatment is important.

You may undergo further tests like a CT chest, a mountoux test and a bronchoscopy where some fluid is taken out from the lungs and subjected to certain tests. All these will corroborate the diagnosis and help the doctors and you to decide the further course of action.
