
What Does My Blood Test Report Indicate?

Question: Recent RBC result is 4.16 value, Hemoglobin 12.5 value and Hematocrit 37.9 value. All three readings are modestly lower that previous test. Should I commence taking Iron Supplements?

Based on your lab readings, there is no need for starting iron supplementation. The Hb and hematocrit is within normal limits. Get your ferritin and TIBC levels done, if normal then there is no need for iron supplements. B 12 and folate levels along with peripheral smear (looking for typical hypochromic microcytic features ) will also provide additional evidence for the cause.
