What Does My Blood Test Report Indicate?

I was very worried about my blood sugars .
I took a full blood test with hba1c 2 weeks ago.
my hba1c came back at 5.3%
I also usually test my blood sugar at home.
usually my blood sugar are around 4.7 to 5.1 fasting
and 5.5 to 7.0 after meals.
However today i had a lot of carbs and some cakes
my blood sugar after 40 minutes was 9.0mmol/l. I
washed my hands and did the test again 3 more
times immediately and got 8.0 then 7.7 and then 7.7
again.
Then i waited another hour and tested again at 7.7. at this point i got worried and decided to use a different hand towel and did 3 more test that came back 6.3, 6.2 and 6.4.
my father was a type 2 diabetic and i am worried that i have become diabetic too.
Should i be worried about this one time high reading? is it indicative of diabetes?
Not indicative of diabetes
Detailed Answer:
Good day,
Noted your question.
Any of the mentioned sugar values are not indicative of diabetes. A fasting glucose value of 5.5 and below is normal. A fasting sugar value of 7 and above indicates diabetes. A sugar value between 5.5 and 7 is called as impaired fasting glucose ( prediabetes).
A 2 hour post meal sugar value of 7.7 and below is normal. A value between 7.7 to 11.1 is prediabetes range and above 11.1 indicates diabetes.
Hba1c of less than 5.7 is normal, between 5.7 to 6.5 is prediabetes and more than 6.5 is diabetes range.
If you are worried, please get a 75 gram oral glucose test done. That will give a defenite answer about your chances of developing diabetes.

Binu

I would get a ogtt but probably when i have my next set of checkups in 3 months .
But is 9.0 or 8.0, 40 minutes after a high carb meal normal for a non diabetic?
I had potatoes,a bowl of rice, a slice of cake, some sweetened tea and some corn.
OGTT
Detailed Answer:
Aplologies in the delay in reply. Please understand that glucometer is designed only to monitor sugars at home and not for diagnosis. Fpr diagnosis of diabetes, venous or plasma sugar readings are recommended. Even otherwise, 9 or 8 mmol after 40 minutes of high carbohydrate diet is not that high.
Good to hear that you are planning for an OGTT. Make sure that you eat normal diet for atleast 3 days prior to the test. During the entire test time ( 2 hours) of OGTT, you need to sit down and not supposed to walk around.
