What Does My Blood Test Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Thu, 26 Nov 2015
Question: Hi,
Hi,
I recently had blood work done. It showed a VITAMIN D,25-HYDROXY 25 L 30-100 NG/ML, and AST 40 H 10-35 U/L and ALT 40 H 6-29 U/L. I am concerned about the elevated levels of AST and ALT. I have never had this type of result before. I am a 47 year old female, in good health. I exercise regularly, eat healthy and do not drink or abuse drugs. I have an appointment with my MD in a few weeks, but am just curious at this time why I may have received these results.

Brief Answer:
Minor elevation and probably not significant

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome and thanks for your query.
With your lifestyle there is nothing to worry about a minor elevation of ALT. This can occur with a viral infection which will subside on its own. To be significant, the ALT has to be raised to twice its normal value. AST more than ALT is also significant.
I wouldn't worry if I were you, continue the same healthy lifestyle and repeat the ALT and AST after a couple of months.
Your vitamin D is low. This may corrected with more sunlight exposure, taking vitamin D rich foods/ supplement.
Take care
