Brief Answer:
Sub-clinical hypothyroidism - can start thyriid medications

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to HCM. I have gone through your questions and understand your concerns.

1. Your TSH is slightly high and thyroid hormones (T3 andT4) are normal. This condition is called sub clinical hypothyroidism.

One of the indications for treating sub clinical hypothyroidism is high cholesterol. So it is better for you to start on a small dose of thyroxine.

There are no diet modifications needed for the thyroid illness. Treating hypothyroidism may bring down your cholesterol to normal.

2. Cholesterol medications are needed at your age when you have high LDL ( >190) along with diabetes, smoking habit or a close relative (like father or brother) have heart disease. If these risk factors are not there, you can try with diet and exercise and recheck your lipid values after 3 months.

Hope I have answered your questions. If you have any further questions, I will be pleased to help you.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome back.

1. Thyroid

You can safely start on thyroid medication. There won't be any side effects. This is just a thyroid hormone replacement. Some patients rarely may develop gastritis, giddiness or palpitations.

Thyroid medication can help in improving your weight, general health, decrease cholesterol and have cardiac benefits.

2. Cholesterol

I suggest you to wait for 3 months of diet and exercise before starting on cholesterol medicines. There can be side effects like muscle pain, hepatitis, increased blood sugars after starting cholesterol medicines.

Cholesterol medicines are started to prevent heart disease. Once started these medications has to be continued for life. So we can give a trial of lifestyle modifications for few months before starting these medications.

Both thyroid and cholesterol medicines will have the effects only when they are in use. Once stopped your thyroid function and cholesterol values will go back to pre treatment values.

We are not permitted to share personal details like phone number or mail id through this site. You can contact customer Care health care magic for details.

I will be happy to help you if you have any further questions.
