What Does My Eye Test Report Result Indicate?

Posted on Thu, 21 Jan 2016
Question: Recently, I had a routine check of the power of my eyes and here are the details.
      Spherical      Cylindrical     Axis
Right     2.50      0.75      180.00
Left      3.00      0.50      160.00
I also have a reading power of 1.5 for both eyes.
I am using spectacles with progressive lens. I also want to use contact lens for distance, for which I purchased a separate reading glass of 1.5, to use while working with the computer and for reading purpose. Kindly advise as to what power of contact lens I should go for. Please note that I have used contact lens in the past, with additional reading glasses whenever required.

Brief Answer:
refraction power is spherocylindrical wants contact.

Detailed Answer:
In my opinion progressive lens is not suitable for since you are having cylindrical defect. It will not be solved by progressive lens. According to your need and focus it is suitable for distant and near in one speces.Correction is mainly for distant and near.In contact lens the power required will be less then sphere. For practical purpose you have to use separate specs for near vision.Contact lens is also available as bifocal but problem in your case is cylinder. Just like in the past you have to use separate specs for near vision. For contact lens by observing refraction prescription the optometrist will give the contact lens for distant vision but your cylinder will remain uncorrected.Contact lens with cylindrical and bifocal are available but they will not be suitable. In my opinion it is better to use specs for your problem.Do Not see much advantage with contact lens.

Thank you, Doctor. While on one hand, I am disappointed to hear that I cannot switch to contacts. This means that I am stuck with glasses, which may only get thicker with age. On the other hand, I have to accept that my vision will never be the same as someone with naturally good eyes. And I would rather do whatever is best for my vision.

Is there any way to control or reduce power? I am already 43 and fear that I'll have really thick glasses in the next 10-15 years.
