What Does My Hepatitis B Result Suggest?
Need more information
Detailed Answer:
Hello Ms XXXX,
How are you? Thanks for writing to HCM. My name is Dr Suresh Raghavaiah. I am a Liver transplant Surgeon and I will attempt to answer your question today.
I just read your discussion with Dr Matin and I understand you are a health care worker. It can very stressful to deal with borderline results, especially when you are constantly working with patients blood. I totally understand your apprehension about your blood results.
Before I guide you any further, I do need some specific pieces of informtion.
1. What technique was used to run the test (ELISA, colourimetry etc)
2. What are the reference values quoted for positivity and negativity in that particular batch of tests?
3. I understand from reading your previous discussion that you have been vaccinated against hepatitis B. Have you ever measured your Anti HbsAg Antibody levels? If yes, what are the levels?
Looking over your results, I am fairly confident that you do not have Hepatitis B infection. But I understand that you are very apprehensive about the possibility. So purely to put your mind at rest, I would advise you to get a quantitative hepatitis B viral DNA levels checked in your blood. if that test is negative then you can be sure that you do not have hepatitis B infection.
Hope this discussion helped you and hope that you start feeling better.
Please do not hesitate to contact me for any further clarifications.
