Brief Answer:
normal kidney

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

The reports what you have furnished tells us that your kidney function is normal. The difference between blood urea and bun is that blood urea is twice the value of bun. Increased blood urea and bun is after seen when the patient is dehydrated or has kidney failure.
Urine routine also is normal.

If you want to investigate further I recommend the following
1. Get ultra sound for kidney size
2. check for micro albuminuria if you are a hypertensive or a diabetic

I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me

regards

Hello Doc , Thanks for the reply I got ultrasound done doc says both kidneys and bladder are normal in size. Reason for my investigation is 2 months back I took a antibiotic oflaxicin and ornidazole for cough and fever 1 at night and 1 next day morning. After which I got mouth ulcer which doesn't pain it's just a patch which doesn't pain. but taste of mouth is disturbed. and I also get foamy saliva and taste is something different and not going away. from past 2 weeks I get pain in the back and hips and bloating in stomach. i a. feeling burning at feets and kneews sometimez .I am really worried if my kidneys got damaged due ton antibiotic I took.
I am more stressful so few more questions.
1. If kidney fails how long it takes time for creatinine to increase ? or only BUN increases and not creatinine ?
2. If blood urea and creatinine are fine kidney ?

Hello

Thanks getting back, I am extremely sorry for the short delay in my reply there was a family emergency I had to attend to.

Mouth ulcers and change of taste in the mouth are known side effects of antibiotics. It is also known to cause bloating of the stomach and gastritis. Oflox and ornidazole are relatively safe drugs for the kindeys.

1. The creatinine rises within 24 hours if the kidney fails. BUN and s creat rises
2. If BUN and S creat are normal then it indicates normal kidney function.

Please get back to me, I will be happy to sort out all your doubts.

Hello Doc Thank you. I have monitored creatinine and urea from 2 months after taking antibiotic. how long the effect of antibiotic will be. I have dry mouth and due to which I am drinking lot of water and sometimes I am feeling my feets are filled with water and also my knees pain and have burning sensation some times. what could be reason for this ?
questions 1. The antibiotic I took was named as O2 (oflaxicin 200+ ornidazole 500) . This tablet I took one at night and one next day morning . Is it is overdose ??..I took only 2 tablets and stopped

2. I am feeling a burning sensation at my lower back and near to kidney area left side after which I got it ultrascanned by doc and he says everything is normal what could be the reason .
3. If damage happens due to antibiotic is it possible to restore it's function ?

Thanks for getting

Since there are several questions I shall answer them one by one so that I dont miss any
1. The effect of the antibiotic on the kidneys is almost immediate. By 4th or 5 th the patients start developing renal failure, it is reversible. Once the harmful antibiotic is stopped the kidney function goes back to normal

2. Swelling of feet can be because of 1. Renal failure 2. Low albumin 3. Heart related issues 4. Thyroid dysfunction. Pleae make sure these tests are done. Sometimes swelling can occur on sitting for a long time and its idiopathic ( no apparent reason)

3. The dose of oflox is correct and not overdose

4. Are you still having the burning? Is there pain as well?

5. It is possible to restore the function if the antibiotic is stopped on time

Hello

Thanks for getting back

Burning of the feet and elbows are not related to the kidney. The most common reasons for these are 1. anxiety ( most probable cause in you) 2. Vitamin B 12 and Vit D deficiency 3. Diabetes. Please get yourself tested for all these.

The antibiotic taken 2 months back will not cause renal failure now, you can relax your mind regarding that issue.

Hello Doctor,
Thanks For reply. I have few more questions.
1. Main reason for my question was bitter taste in mouth when nothing in mouth I feel bitter. and for few days mouth will be dry and goes away and excess saliva stars As u would have seen many patients with kidney failure is it common to get this bitter taste always is common symptom ?
2. I read in forums bitter taste is due to excess urea in blood but is it possible that such bitter taste can come also for urea which is within range.
3. I got my creatinine tested 2 times initially 10 days back it came 0.9 and now 1.0 (Lab range is 0.5 to 1.5) So this increase of 0.1 in creatinine within 12 days is thing to worry ?
4.Wheb I checked urea last time it was 38mg/dl and now 20mg/do any reason for such drastic change. For sure my diet changed initially I was in Germany and from week I am I XXXXXXX my home. Reports attached

Brief Answer:
Normal tests

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for getting back. All your test reports are within the normal limits and you do not have any kidney issues

1. The bitter taste in the mouth is definitely not related to the kidneys. The bitter taste in the mouth in kidney failure is because of urea, it is only seen in end stage renal disease patients. Please meet a dentist regarding this.
2. Urea should be more than 150 to get this bitter taste. Your urea is within normal limits
3. Creatinine depends on the hydration status of the patient. 1.0 is within normal limitis. Drink abour 6 glasses of water a day. There is nothing to worry about 0.1 increase in creatinine
4. Urea depends on the diet you take. People with higher protein diet tend to have a high urea. Yours is within normal limits, you have nothing to worry about

Any possibility that kidney issue cause fluid retension only at one eye ?? I am feeling may be fluid retension happening
2. Any measurement I can do in home to make sure guild is going out completely ? like water intake =urine ?

No trouble at all

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for getting back, you are no trouble at all. Please ask me doubts till you are 100% clear.
I shall answer your questions one by one aso that I dont miss any
1. Usually kidney issues will lead to swelling in the both eyes and this swelling will be painless and will not be associated with itching. Since you do not have any loss of proteins in the urine and also because serum creatinine is 0.9 there is no worry about fluid retention
2. Please get back to me, what do you mean by guild? Did you mean fluid? Make sure to drink plenty of water, about 2-3 litres per day. Intake=output is only done in chronic kidney disease patients and transplant patients in their initia post op days.

Hello Doc , Thank you do much for you valuable reply. Actually I stay at Germany and now came to XXXXXXX for home trip. So this week end I am travelling back to Germany and before that I want to confirm about my kidneys once. As I am in small city don't know all types of tests available or not but following tests are available
1. Serum Creatinine
2. Serum Urea
3. Urine complete analysis (including albumin and sugar) of first urine sample of morning.
4. Ultrasound Scan of abdomeny/pelvis (including kidneys and bladder)

Please let me know if above listed test are sufficient to conclude the kidney status.

I am planning to perform all these tests and share reports with you.

I would also want you to find out if urine protein creat ratio or 24 hour urine protein analysis is available. This should be enough to conclude diagnosis of kindey disease

Have a safe trip. Keep in touch from Germany

Normal reports

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Some amount of albumin gets excreted from the urine and it is normal. These proteins can be either tamm horsfall proteins or blood products. A human being cannot have completely nil proteinuria, a minimim of 30 mg gets excreted from our body in any given urine sample. Do not worry about it, your test results are normal,
I hope I have explained things well to you

Hello Doc, Thank you for your reply . since I was very much worried after seeing results I got this ratio tested second time also and I have attached that report also. second time I waited for 4-5 hours without urinarion and then went for test and second time albumin was 10mg% and creatinine was 55mg% second ratio was 0.17 which is less the 0.2 but I have few questions here.
1. What is this % in report is that means mg/Dl ?
2. Here test was done on random sample both times (first without wait and second after waiting for 5 hours). In random 5-10 mg% means still acceptable ?
3. As you mentioned 30mg is this 30mg per day ? in overall in 24 hour quantity or again it's 30mg% ?
4. Please let me know anything to worry here ?

Hello Doc, Thank you for the reply. if limit is 30mg/day then it means 30mg for 2-3 liter of urine. ? But in report it is 5-10mg per 100ml sample given. Sorry if my question is silly but its just for my understanding.

As all the tests and reports for the suggested tests are availavle what will be your final conclusion about my kidney fuction ? do i need to consult further or i can relax ?

Thank you so much for your support

Hello

Thanks for getting back

I understand your concern, no question is silly according to me. All questions are equally important.
It is not 10% of 100 ml urine. It means than out of the total proteins excreted ( which can be several things like creatinine, albumin, globulin, TH protein, blood produts) 10% is albumin
